The following instructions are intended to assist authors in preparing high-quality, readable manuscripts. Authors are encouraged to consult the most recent issue of the journal to verify their preferred layout, format, style and appearance.
Format
Manuscripts must be double-spaced, including the abstract, references, and any block citations. Line numbers should be inserted, consecutively throughout the text, to facilitate the review process. The manuscript has been edited to remove sexist and biased language. Note that a blind review process was used to evaluate the manuscript. Therefore, any clues about authorship must be removed from the manuscript. The first page of the manuscript should not include author names or affiliations, but should include the article title and preferred title.
The length of the manuscript text, including title page, abstract, text, and references, is expected to be 15 to 20 double-spaced pages. Begin with the title page and number the pages in the upper right corner. All manuscripts must contain an abstract of no more than 200 words. A structured abstract format should be used, including marking the following sections within the abstract paragraphs: aims, methods, results, and conclusions. Statements regarding institutional review board approval and obtaining informed consent/consent from parent/child subjects should be included in the Methods section.
style
All manuscripts must be written in English, paying attention to concise language, smooth information structure and logic, and correct grammar. We appreciate some of our authors for whom English is not their first language and who may need assistance to meet the standards required by the journal. Also, some authors may not have sufficient experience with the style of scientific writing. As manuscripts that do not meet the journal's writing standards will not be submitted for review, these authors may wish to enlist the assistance of native English speakers and/or experienced peers before submitting their article. Many journals recognize the existence of companies that provide professional editing services. An example of this service can be found athttp://www.aje.com/.This information does not constitute an endorsement of the service. Use of editorial services is at the discretion and expense of the author and does not guarantee acceptance inPediatric Exercise Science.
Avoid unnecessary jargon and abbreviations, but use an acronym or abbreviation if it is more recognizable than the full version of the term. Numbers, units, and other statistics must be formatted according toAMA Style Manual, 10th edition. Length, height, mass and volume measurements must be reported in metric units (meters, kilograms). Only standard physiological abbreviations should be used. Avoid using abbreviations in titles. The full text must precede the first use of an abbreviation.
Figures and Tables
The sum of figures and tables should be limited to five and should not duplicate material in the main text. Captions for figures and tables must be included in the main document along with the full text. Tables must be formatted in Word and must be editable. Do not send the form as an image or PDF. Images must be sent individually in TIF or JPG format. Characters should look professional, with clean, crisp lines. Hand drawing and lettering are not accepted. Submit a copy of each figure. Clearly identify each number. Tables should be double-spaced and contain short headings. However, authors are encouraged to submit illustrations rather than tables. When tabular material is required, the information should not be repeated with the text.
reference
The reference style isPediatric Exercise Sciencemust follow theInternational Committee of Medical Journal Editors, as set out by the committeeUniform Requirements for Manuscript Submission to Biomedical Journals. In reference lists, citations should be listed alphabetically (not in order of citation). In the text, references are identified by Arabic numerals in brackets (1). Make sure that all entries in the reference list are cited in the text and that all entries in the text are included in the reference list. References should be limited to previously published or currently published (accepted for publication) work. Normally, the number of references should not exceed 50. Properly identified abstracts may be cited only if the abstract is the sole source. Reference lists must be double-spaced. When a reference has more than 7 authors, use the first 3 followed by "et al.". Examples of reference styles include:
